Saturday’s trip to the 4th Annual Vintage Faire at the Butte Creek Mill in Eagle Point afforded visitors a glimpse into the past. The mill is officially listed on the National Registry of Historic Places and also maintains its status as the only commercially operated water-run flour mill on the west coast. The mill has been operating since 1872 — just 13 years less than Oregon has been a state. On Saturday, the mill treated visitors to a tour of its inner workings as well as free samples of bread made from the freshly milled flour.
There was also plenty to do outside the mill. An old-time fiddlers group played on the grass near the adjacent antique store, hobbyists demonstrated their restored antique tractors and steam engines, and the Saturday market next door offered everything from fresh honey to alpacas. Visitors could also treat themselves to horse and carriage rides.
